The publication Temporary Cuts contains a 175-page photo section, a text by Ludwig Seyfarrth and an interview with Elke Falat and Birgit Hölmer. The third section in the book presents a comprehensive index with photos of the stores used by the artist. The entries are arranged alphabetically according to street names and cities and have personal comments added to them.
“Cuts” are interventions to the display windows of vacant stores, made of adhesive strips that create abstract forms. Sticking them to the glass makes the “Cuts” appear to float in space, depending on what angle the light falls on them from. Birgit Hölmer has been carrying out her interventions since 2015, mostly unannounced. Hundreds of “Cuts” have resulted in the meantime – in Berlin, in other German cities, and during scholarship periods in other European countries. The “Cuts” generally remain in place for a limited time, either until the owners remove them, they become damaged in the course of time, or they fall apart on their own. The publication is funded by Kunstfonds Bonn.
