The artist Francis Zeischegg explores topics at the boundary between art and architecture. Her aesthetic research is consistently grounded in the experience of social spaces, while her artistic explorations investigate, among other things, the direction of the gaze and the often hidden visual hierarchies and systems of observation.
Her installation-based works and objects also address concepts of distance and proximity, spatial boundaries, and the pursuit of control through measurement. In her work, the artist does not understand “space” merely as a formal constant but also as the dynamic outcome of social processes, as the consequence of social acts and individual behaviour. From this, existential questions arise, such as: How to people live today? In what spaces does life take place, and what notions do we have about security and feeling protected? What emerges from these explorations are disconcerting and at the same time highly poetic works, compiled together in her monograph Francis Zeischegg – Site on Edge.
