2019 marked the 200th anniversary of Gottfried Keller's birth. For this occasion, the art trail Der grüne Henry (The Green Henry) was initiated, which is documented by this publication. The trail is intended as a contemporary commentary on Gottfried Keller and his work, containing many references to the city of Zurich.
With a touch of humour, Gottfried Keller often spoke of his "grüner Henry", referring to the epochal artist's novel Der grüne Heinrich (Green Henry), which features autobiographical traits of the poet. "Der grüne Henry" was the focus of a project that was designed as an art trail through Zurich. Curator Angelika Affentranger-Kirchrath invited six artists to respond to various places that have a special significance in Gottfried Keller's life and work with their own works. The stations included: the black garden at Stüssihof, the Central Library at Predigerplatz, the Zunfthaus zur Meisen restaurant, Arnold Böcklin’s studio above Hegibachplatz, the International Lyceum Club and the Obere Bürgli above the Enge.
