The publication Tender Textures compiles texts from various installative or performative projects by the artist Ines Marita Schärer that were produced between 2018 and 2025 and presented at different locations and in different contexts. These texts are written with the body as their starting point – with all its sensual perceptions, fine sensations and (hyper) sensibilities. It applies an experimental method of writing and allows places, environments, situations and things to move Schärer and have an effect on her. This results in a collage – a layering and an interweaving of recurring motifs.
The texts are often compact and fragmentary, in places compiled in a seemingly eclectic manner, and yet held together by an own rhythm. Landscapes are connected to images of the body. And the topics are ecological catastrophes, skin and surfaces.
The texts emerged from a deep sense of unease and apprehension in times of political upheaval and ecological crises. They nevertheless come from a place of hope, with the corresponding insistence that fragility and sensibility are valuable and constitutive forces.
