With his photo series Ricochet, which he began in 2013, Rudolf Steiner navigates the fine line between romantically glorified images of nature and the depiction of a wounded landscape. Ricochet collects pictures taken in the surroundings of Biel/Bienne and Rondchâtel. These pictures do not strive for a truth of nature or landscape, however designed they may be, but they are, at their core, a kind of collaborative effort with nature due to the chosen shooting process.

The photographs are taken with a camera robot on which a camera takes hundreds of individual shots of a motif; these are later combined into a single image on the computer by a stitching program. Since the lighting conditions can change drastically during the long recording time of between 10 and 30 minutes and meteorological influences such as wind, fog, snow and rain also play a role, the image result can only be controlled or predicted to a limited extent. In addition, errors can occur during stitching that influence the result. These influences and sources of error result in unusual images in which the boundaries of conventional photography dissolve and expand.
